Custom Schwenker grill

Occasionally we do get commissioned to build not only customization...
Schwenker grill, German swing grill

Occasionally we do get commissioned to build not only customization's to grills we currently build, but completely new grill designs. This customer wanted us to build a traditional Schwenker grill (German swing grill). Obviously having a German ancestry and love for about anything bbq'd or grilled, I knew what he was referring to.

He specified his size requirements and one of his requests is he wanted it to look established, as if it has been around for decades. The really nice thing, even refreshing and what we enjoy, is we were given artistic license. Other than the size requirement, he only specified it needed to look and work like a traditional Schwenker grill. He then set his budget and said "I've seen your work before, I know you do good work and I want you to just build me a great grill."

So as we finish the grill, I thought it would be nice to share. This grill is headed to a Christkindlmarkt in Carmel, Indiana with the intention to cook 5000 sausages a day on it for the Christmas season. My hopes is this grill is still going strong and making good food, long after I'm gone.

May even take a road trip to Carmel, Indiana to see them use it. I'm down for a couple Bratwursts.

Cheers,

Spike

Chris: I’m relaxing in our back yard, getting ready to fire up my 1000. We recently moved to Northeast Ohio and the weather is finally inviting some outdoor cooking. After looking at some of the posts in your BLOG, I’m compelled to add a comment. (I’ll do a post later in our Spring complete with a pic. Yup, I can compete.) I’m thinking back to early 2013 when we first chatted about you guys building me a 1000. I remember swinging by the plant, in the middle of corn fields, to pick it up. We were bringing our middle daughter home from the University of Illinois. She graduated and we were bringing her worldly possessions home along with the 1000. You and Kyle were a delight to meet. That was 7-ish years ago and my 1000 is still going strong and the talk of the neighborhood. It’s great to watch your business flourish! Continued best wishes to you, Kyle and the crew.
