The 1000 Series Firebox insert fits onto the coal grate inside the side firebox. With this you can use more charcoal for longer burns without opening and checking the firebox. Along with directing the heat more efficiently into the cooking chamber.

Chris' notes: I don't know why we didn't think of this design sooner. We've only been testing it over late fall and winter. When we use it we have the lower damper open fully to utilize the primary and secondary heat generated and regulate the heat in the cooking chamber using the upper damper. You might come up with your own heat regulation ideas and I'm certain come summer the lower damper will need to be closed down. Once we had the design built and installed in the shop grill we never wanted to remove it. I put one in my home grill. Also a reminder to only use lump charcoal and/or whole logs or chunk wood. The binder added in charcoal briquettes makes getting good airflow in a firebox difficult.
